Summary:
Introduction: Islamic law considers human life in all its aspects, including health. It has made the intellect, upon which religious obligation rests, one of the foundations of legal responsibility. The health of the intellect is based on the vital organ of the heart. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Verily, in the body there is a morsel of flesh which, if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Verily, it is the heart.” Physical and mental health depend on the heart, and the latter has received the greatest attention in our pure religion. The intended meaning here is the spiritual aspect, which determines a person’s state, whether stable or otherwise. Therefore, one of the objectives of Islamic law is to bring about benefits and avert harms. Among the most important of these are the five essentials, including the preservation of life and intellect. Islamic law has considered these from two perspectives: the presence and absence of life. Hence, I have chosen the eighth topic, entitled: The Islamic Dimension in Promoting Mental Health, due to its importance, which is manifested in the following:
- The impact on the health of the human body.
- The inherent diversity within the human psyche and the changes it undergoes.
- The existence of some differences between spiritual healing and modern psychiatry.
- People’s distancing from religious teachings has contributed to a deficiency in their faith.
The central question we face here is: How does Islamic law address the mental health of individuals, and what is its purpose in doing so? This leads to the following sub-questions: What are the objectives of Islamic law in this regard? What is the relationship between modern psychiatry and the spiritual aspect in Islam? What is the role of religious institutions, such as mosques, institutes, centers, and Islamic universities, in preserving mental health and achieving a stable life? To answer these questions, I propose the following plan:
Introduction
First Section: The Islamic objectives for preserving mental health and its balance with the spiritual aspect.
Second Section: Mental health between modern psychiatry and spiritual healing.
Third Section: The role of faith and monotheism in protecting individuals from mental illnesses.
Fourth requirement: The role of religious institutions in preserving mental health and achieving a stable life Conclusion.
