This article provides a comparative study of the journeys of Ibn Jubayr and Ibn Battuta, exploring their representations of society, authority, and culture during the Islamic Middle Ages. It highlights the importance of travel literature as a key source for understanding daily life, urban structures, religious diversity, and cross-cultural encounters. While Ibn Jubayr’s journey reflects social criticism and religious caution, Ibn Battuta offers a broader, more panoramic view and greater openness toward non-Islamic cultures. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of urban dynamics, power structures, and identity formation in the medieval Islamic world.
