مستخلص:ارتبطت نشأة الفأل عند العرب قبل الإسلام بالعقلية العربية التي تميل إلى تعميق النظر في رؤية كل شيء بسيط كان أو معقدا بنظره دقيقة، وهذه الدقة في الرؤية أدت إلى نشوء أشبه ما يكون بالعلم عندهم، وأخذت هذه المسألة بالتطور تدريجيا حتى تحولت من مجرد أوهام تسيطر على عقليتهم وتتحكم بها إلى ارتباطها بما كان يعبد من أصنام، فظهرت لديهم قضية الاستقسام بالأزلام، وانتشرت بينهم الكثير من العادات المستهجنة التي تغللت في نفوسهم وأخذت تسيطر عليهم، فبرزت العرافة واعتبروها تدريجيا جزء أساسيا من حياتهم اليومية، لدرجة أن العربي كان لا يسافر، ولا يخوض الحروب، ولا يقوم بأي عمل إلا إذا مارس العرافة أو التفاؤل.
نتج عن هذه الظاهرة أن العرب أخذوا يتشاءمون من أشياء كثيرة يعدونها دالة على الشر، ويتفاءلون بأشياء أخرى يعدونها دالة على الخير، فكانوا إذا أرادوا تجارة أو سفرا مثلا أهاجوا الطير من أماكنها فإن طارت ذات اليمين تفاءلوا خيرا ومضوا، وإن طارت ذات الشمال تشاءموا ورجعوا عن تجارتهم وسفرهم.

Abstract:
The emergence of omens among the Arabs before Islam was closely linked to their mentality, which favored a deep and precise observation of everything, whether simple or complex. This attention to detail led to the development of concepts akin to science, gradually evolving from mere illusions that governed their thinking. Their beliefs were intertwined with the idols they worshipped, resulting in various customs that permeated their souls and began to exert control over them.
Divination became an essential part of their daily lives to such an extent that an Arab would not travel, engage in wars, or undertake any significant action without first consulting omens or seeking signs of good fortune. Consequently, they developed a tendency to be pessimistic about many things they perceived as omens of evil, while becoming optimistic about others they regarded as indicators of good.
For instance, when they wished to conduct trade or embark on a journey, they would observe the flight of birds. If a bird flew to the right, they interpreted this as a positive omen and proceeded with their plans. Conversely, if a bird flew to the left, they took it as a bad sign and would abandon their trade or travel.
